60 PhD scholarships under the Technological University Research and Innovation Supporting Enterprise (TU RISE)

The Atlantic Technological University (ATU) proudly announced the launch of 60 new PhD scholarships. These scholarships are part of the Technological University Research and Innovation Supporting Enterprise (TU RISE) initiative, which is designed to strengthen the research capabilities of academia and regional enterprises in the west and northwest.

The scholarships span a wide array of disciplines, including Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, AgriFood & AgriTech, Audiovisual & Creative, ICT & ICT Services, Life Sciences, MedTech & Medical Devices, Marine & Blue Economy, and Renewable Energy, Climate Change Mitigation & Sustainability. Applications are currently being accepted.

Scholars who are awarded these scholarships will not only enhance their expertise in their respective fields but also foster robust collaborations with regional enterprises. These collaborations will align with Ireland’s Smart Specialisation Strategy and the Regional Enterprise Plans. Through placements, the scholars will serve as highly skilled researchers and act as proactive conduits between the university and enterprise.

The TU RISE scheme, overseen by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), is jointly financed by the Government of Ireland and the European Union. This is done through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), including the Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021- 27 and the Northern & Western Regional Programme 2021-27.

ATU President, Dr Orla Flynn, expressed her gratitude for the TU RISE allocation, stating that it underscores ATU’s dedication to promoting research and innovation across the northern and western region. She thanked her colleagues from both the HEA and the Northern and Western Regional Assembly for their unwavering support throughout this funding call.

Dr John Bartlett, Head of Research and Principal Investigator of ATU TU RISE-Researcher Development at ATU, expressed his delight at the launch of 60 new PhD projects. He congratulated the staff who have developed these projects and secured €19.6m in funding for them. He also welcomed the successful applicants who will join ATU’s five Postgraduate Research Training Programmes (PRTPs), which were also launched today. He emphasized that these scholarships offer a valuable and exciting set of opportunities to a new generation of postgraduate researchers joining the ATU research and academic community and the enterprises they will be collaborating with.
